bHIP: BRAC Heathcare Innovations Program

09/03/2013 13:47

In response to the inequitable and inefficient track of the healthcare sector in Bangladesh, BRAC Health Program in collaboration with James P. Grant School of Public Health at BRAC University is designing a comprehensive health care package entitled BRAC Healthcare Innovations Program (bHIP).  The program aims to help jump-start the journey to universal health coverage in Bangladesh by providing a transformative option for the health care consumer that minimizes the risk of economic compromise and reducing the burden of Out of Pocket Expenditure.  It will ensure coverage of essential services linked to the health-related MDGs.

bHIP will integrate three major lines of innovation in healthcare related to i. service provision, ii. financing and iii. information management. The healthcare services innovation places the client at the center of care with access to a responsive care system that covers a comprehensive essential package of services instead of the current mode of fragmented delivery. The financing innovation will generate a robust pre-payment pool of resources with judicious management of disbursements to providers and the mitigation of household financial compromise related to health care expenditures. The information management innovation will provide a user-friendly interface between patients and services using access cards and a fully integrated and interoperable IT system.
